Theft from car

By | July 16, 2023

Yesterday one of the allotmenteers had her phone stolen from her car.  She had seen a car, with two young men in it, drive up and thought they didn’t look like allotments holders, but didn’t give it much thought.

When she went back to her car later, her phone was gone and other stuff was strewn about the floor.

This is a very unsettling event.  Please be on the alert and keep your car locked at all times and don’t keep valuables in the car . . . .

If you feel more comfortable, you can close the bottom gate or lock the top gate while working on the allotment.

Paths

A reminder – as grass cutting continues, please keep the paths clear.  We can’t cut the grass if there are stones or debris in the way.  Stones can be particularly bad for the lawnmower and dangerous for the person mowing.

Also, the path to the right of your plot (with your back to the parking lot) is your responsibility to keep mowed.  The smaller lawnmower might work on some of the side paths if you struggle with the strimmer.

Thank you to all the mowers’

We want to thank Ron, plot 5, who has kindly done the maintenance on the equipment in the shed.

Also, thank you for all the allotmenteers who have given up their time to mow the common area.  This is a necessary task which often  goes without any recognition.

Damage to Fence

By | June 27, 2023

Last night the farmer lost control of the slurry container and it went sliding down the hill.  Our new fence posts stopped the container from ruining a few allotments!  Unfortunately this left some major damage to the newly secured fencing and damaged the lower gate.

The farmer has sent one of his men, who works with fencing, tonight to look at the damage and try to mend it to repair it in the next few days.

He apologises for any inconvenience.

Bean and gone

By | May 13, 2023

So, I usually start my runner beans off in trays in my south-facing back garden. But this year, hardly any have come through. Have I watered too much, or not enough? Are my beans ‘old’? Do bean seeds (or any seeds) have a lifespan after which they aren’t any good? I truly don’t know but as I am going away for a little while, I don’t have time to start over, so I’ve planted more seeds directly into the ground on the plot. Never tried this before so here’s hoping . . .
